Clay County Fair - www.claycountyfair.com
For nine days each September, Spencer is host to over 300,000 visitors to the Clay County Fair.  Widely considered as one of the best and largest county fairs in the US, virtually everyone in Clay County is involved in one way or another to help make the fair a success.  Recently, the Clay County Regional Events Center was built on the fairgrounds assisted by local funding.  The facility includes a 7,600 sq. ft. grand ballroom and a 24,000 sq.ft. arena/exhibit hall.  Spencer hosts many cultural events each year in the Events Center, bringing in well-known performers such as Lorie Line and Tonic Sol-fa.

Artisans Road Trip - www.artisansroadtrip.com
A.R.T. is an annual self-guided tour of artists and their work in Northwest Iowa.  Professional artists welcome guests into their studios to discover and purchase quality original works during the second Saturday and Sunday in October each year. The free tour includes over 50 Northwest Iowa artists representing 11 counties. A.R.T. invites everyone to travel Iowa’s scenic byways and back roads looking for one-of-a-kind art treasures. Artisans offer a rare glimpse into creative processes as they demonstrate their craft in personal and unique workspaces.

Grand Meander and Tuba Christmas, Presented by the Chamber of Commerce
One of the most beautiful times of year in Spencer is winter, and Spencer Mainstreet celebrates the holiday season by silhouetting the downtown buildings in white lights.  The first Monday night in December is always “Grand Meander”, where thousands of residents meander on Grand, warming their hands on hot chocolate handed out by business owners and listening to Christmas carols performed by local churches and other community groups in living windows.  A favorite tradition is humming along with the “Tuba Christmas” players, a group of talented local musicians who perform crowd-pleasing favorites on their brass instruments.

Thanks with Franks, Presented by the Chamber of Commerce
The third Thursday in August, every business owner on Spencer’s Mainstreet hands out thousands of free hot dogs to huge crowds of residents and visitors as a way of saying “Thanks” to customers for supporting the retail businesses in downtown Spencer.
